Vintage Vortex Lookbook.
Vintage Vortex is a well-established local boutique specializing in vintage fashion and accessories, conveniently situated in the heart of Savannah, GA. Their expertly curated collection features a wide range of clothing items and accessories from various decades, making Vintage Vortex one of the premier destinations for high-quality clothing resale in the city. Vintage Vortex is currently seeking to broaden their scope and enhance brand visibility within the student population of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD).
Utilizing photographs from a collaborative three-part photoshoot I conceptualized and art directed with Kayleigh Moreland and Vintage Vortex's owner, Lisa Doyle, I aim to further enhance the existing promotional images featuring the theme of luxury futurism. Drawing from both vintage and futuristic photo series, as well as the retro-futurism art style, I crafted a three-spread look book and newspaper advertisement set in Spring 2055. The design features rich, saturated colors and a thick-stroked serif typeface commonly found in retro-futuristic publication layouts.
During my research, I noticed a large presence of collage techniques and dynamic geometric forms in the retro-futurism art movement. My objective was to integrate aspects of this artistic movement with the southern, avant-garde, and grandiose inspired concept depicted in the photograph series. I wanted the clothing to have a vibrant and extravagant feel on the page, as if these styles were larger-than-life.
In order to enhance the localized advertising strategy for Vintage Vortex, I designed a full-page advertisement for a prominent local newspaper distributed throughout the city of Savannah. The advertisement features large rectangular shapes that pay homage to the geometric and color blocking elements of the retro futurist art movement. I felt it was important to anchor the text and visuals firmly within the page layout, given the extravagance and boldness of both elements.
